Who offers a humanist wedding in Italy
Humanist weddings in Italy are offered by Ceremonie Uniche, which is a project of the humanist organization UAAR, the Italian Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics.

Languages offered:
Ceremonie Uniche offers ceremonies in English, Italian and other languages. The language selection is dependent on the language skills of the individual celebrant.

How to book a humanist wedding in Italy:
First, you send an email to cerimonie@uaar.it or celebranti@uaar.it, or you can contact a celebrant directly from this webpage. The celebrants on this page are sorted geographically, so you can see which celebrants cover which part of the country.

When you have chosen a celebrant, you can start planning the wedding in cooperation with the celebrant.

Usually, a few interviews are held to get all the details in place, including the possible legal issues.

And finally, of course, the ceremony itself takes place.

Do we get to choose the humanist wedding celebrant ourselves?
Yes you do. Check this webpage.

Price:
The Italian humanist wedding celebrants operate with different prices. You should ask the celebrant about this before you choose.

How to get in touch:
The easiest way, is to choose a celebrant directly from this webpage
If you prefer to send an e-mail, please use one of these two addresses: cerimonie@uaar.it or celebranti@uaar.it.

UAAR and Ceremonie Uniche are not, as an organization, authorized to perform legally binding weddings in Italy. There is, however, a possibility that your celebrant might be appointed as a civil celebrant on individual terms by the state.

In that case, the humanist wedding ceremony might be split in two with the same person as the celebrant. First a civil, legally binding ceremony, and afterwards the humanist ceremony, or vice versa.

Another option is to have a state representative come and perform the legal ceremony first, and then the symbolic, humanist ceremony afterwards, or vice versa.

In most cases the couple will visit a municipality or state house first and get the civil wedding there, and then go somewhere else and have a humanist wedding/celebration later in the day.

If you don’t want any legal framework and a purely symbolic ceremony, that’s of course ok, for example if you are legally married elsewhere or if you just want to have a celebration of your relationship and don’t want to legally formalize it.

Please talk to your Ceremonie Uniche wedding celebrant regarding all of this.

Italy sadly does not recognize same-sex marriages, but same-sex civil unions are recognized. This places some limitations on same-sex couples, as they are not lawfully “husbands and wives” and therefore not considered a family with rights to adopt children for example. But apart from that, a civil union in Italy provides same-sex couples with many of the legal protections enjoyed by opposite-sex marriages. Read more here.
